After a really great response on my last kitchen post, now is a good time to show what a fresh kitchen can look like.
This kitchen /dining area was at one time two separate rooms. They were dark and small but by opening up the wall between the two rooms and removing the soffit, carrying the cabinets up to the ceiling and installing bright clean finishes, a wonderful usable space emerged.
In today’s market her home is worth quite a bit of money but the kitchen with outdated and somewhat damaged kitchen countertop tiles isn’t going to compete with the other homes that are move-in ready in her area. Most likely her home will sit for months on the market and have to been dramatically reduced in price while turn-key homes are selling in just days at or above list price. The answer to what she needs to do to help her house sell is simple; update your counter tops!
It is always a good idea to get at least three estimates for any type of work being done on your home. Ask people you work with, friends and family who have had work done for them and if they would recommend the company used.
I have had many renovation projects done on the various homes I have owned. Always there has been a huge price difference in the quotes and I needed to ask questions about what the products were, where they came from and what kind of warranty is offered. Some quotes were simply higher because the contractor pays for insurance and health care for his employees.
Other quotes were never what the project really cost at the end. I make a practice to hunt down previous customers and ask to see the work that was done. Yes this seems like a huge hassle, but isn’t it an even worse hassle to keep calling a contractor to fix the outlets that were never installed in your kitchen 2 months ago? (This has happened to me and fortunately I was able to fix them myself.) All of that aside, stop at the book store or magazine isle at the grocery store and look at some of the currently trending ideas in the magazines for the space you need to spruce up.
You can also click on the current home improvement web sites. They are always full of amazing ideas.
Believe it or not FORMICA is making a comeback. Check out some of the new textures and retro patterns.
Don’t be so sure that your little fix up project is going to cost you a fortune. It may be far more affordable than you ever expected.
Best wishes for your update and remember Things are looking up!
